Check out this 14-minute behind-the-scenes mini-doc on the making of the film Le Mans, detailing what went into getting all that high-speed footage and how far Steve McQueen wanted to go to make the film as authentic to racing as possible. Includes commentary from Derek Bell and Masten Gregory, two of the drivers who participated in the filming. Very interesting. Found on Hemmings Blog.
Interesting perspective on that film. Being a racer myself (strictly amateur) I have always been annoyed by phony racing films, and was thrilled to see this film as very authentic. This documentary explains a lot about how that was accomplished. I hope the new film “Rush” will be as authentic, but it will never be able to live up to Le Mans – no Steve McQueen!
