1989 Pontiac 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am
Updated: 10/1/2015
This car marks the end of the Turbo Buick era. GM’s last installation of the turbocharged and intercooler 3.8 liter V6. The same engine that powered the legendary 1987 Buick Grand National GNX. Finally installed in a platform that made sense. A car that came complete with all of the braking and handling upgrades available.
And selected as the pace car at Indy. I know what you are thinking. But in 1989 the only modification made to the Turbo Trans Am to pace the actual race was the addition of lights. This one didn’t need any other modifications. It’s fast, handles, and stops.
There were 1,555 of these built. This one is number 297. The majority of the build run had leather and T-tops. This one has glass T-tops that fit correctly and have the correct forms. The later cars had Lexan tops that don’t look right.
46,500 Miles. The car was purchased in Phoenix in the Spring of 2001 with 36,000 miles on it. Always garaged and covered. The car has been in the dry phoenix area for about 20 years.
Mobil 1 and AC filters only. Mobil 1 synthetic transmission fluid. FilterMags installed on the oil filter and transmission. Well cared for inside and out.
Shifts are firm and satisfying.
BFG G-Force Sport tires.
Brakes redone with stainless steel brake lines.
Fiberglass replacement rear wing (the original was very heavy and was falling apart).
Knock and boost gauges mounted on A-pillar. Original A-pillar moldings included.
No dents. No rust. Original paint. All of the VIN stickers are on the body panels.
Custom intake tube. Original included.
RJC Power Plate installed. This equalizes the flow to all of the cylinders and helps prevent pre-detonation. Works as advertised.
Headlight pucks replaced. The headlights go up and down like they are supposed to.
The Air Conditioning compressor was replaced last year with an AC-Delco replacement. Original compressor in box. The R12 A/C blows cold.
The owner is only selling it because of needing shop space for a project car that is demanding more and more room.
Car is located near Phoenix, Arizona.
