CanAm didn’t get much better than this. They were all there. Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme, Jim Hall, Mark Donohue, Parnelli Jones, Lothar Mochenbacher, Chris Ammon, John Surtees. Chaparral, Lola, McClaren, a King Cobra—an original vintage race. And a battle to the end thrown in to boot.
Start the video at the beginning if it starts somewhere else.
Great to see this race, which was originally aired on ABC-TV’s “Wide World of Sports” on a long-ago Saturday afternoon.
Aahh…when the cars were cool, the drivers too, racing was interesting, men were men and women were glad of it.
Thanx for posting.
I was there and at every other USRRC and CanAm Los Angeles Times Grand Prix from the early 60’s to the early 70’s. I also attended every Stardust Grand Prix in Las Vegas too.
I have a big box full of my fathers 8mm films of the sports car races at Santa Barbara Airport, Paramount Ranch, Pomona Fairgrounds and Riverside from the 50’s, 60’s.
